Aluminum-Wire

Aluminum Wiring Replacement-St. Louis

Why You May Have Aluminum Wiring

Aluminum wiring was the standard way to wire a home prior to the 1970’s.  However, copper wire has been the new standard since then due to the increased risk of fire hazards. This is because the aluminum can shrink and expand at certain temperatures making it extremely vulnerable to an electrical fire, especially with outlets, switches, circuit breakers, and other points of connection.

What Should I Do if I Have Aluminum Wiring?

There are two options if you have aluminum wiring: repair or replace.  While replacing has a little bit higher of a price tag associated with it, it will eliminate the source of the fire hazard which is the aluminum.  According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), it is also safe to repair the outlet connections (where the hazards are the highest) using either COPALUM or  alumiConn connectors.  Fortunately, if you’re using a reliable & licensed electrician, repairing can save you some money and be equally as safe.  That’s where your trusted St. Louis electricians here at TSI can come to help.  Just give us a call at (636) 425-1300 or shoot us an email at brolf@tsi-global.com
